Proceratosaurus was a genus of carnivorous theropod dinosaur that lived during the Middle Jurassic, or in other words about 165 million years ago in what is now England. When it was first described, palaeontologists thought it was an early relative of Ceratosaurus (another horned theropod), hence the name (Before Ceratosaurus).
More recent discoveries however, link the Proceratosaurus more with the Tyrannosaurus Rex than to the Ceratosaurus. It was small, fast and very lightly built with lenght of aout 3 meters (10 feet) and weighed about 50 – 100kg (110 – 220 lbs).
Other distinctive features were the elongated skull and the specific crest on its snout. It is also very likely to have had proto-feathers, as it belonged to the coelurosaur group (which includes modern birds).
