Gryposuchus

“Crocodiles, Aligators, Kaymans the all look lazy but oh god do they run when then feel like it.”
Owen Grady

Gryposuchus is an extinct genus of crocodylian, a group that includes modern-day crocodiles, alligators, and their close relatives. Gryposuchus is particularly notable for its unique and exaggerated facial features.

The Gryposuchus lived during the late Miocene to Pliocene epochs, which is approximately 13 to 2 million years ago. Fossil remains of Gryposuchus have been found in various locations across South America. The genus name “Gryposuchus” is derived from the Greek words “grypos” (hooked) and “suchus” (crocodile), referring to the hooked shape of its snout.

Some species of Gryposuchus could grow to considerable sizes. The length of these crocodylians could range from several meters to around 5-6 meters (16 to 20 feet).

Gryposuchus likely inhabited freshwater environments, such as rivers and lakes. Given its elongated snout, it is believed to have been primarily a piscivorous (fish-eating) predator, using its specialized jaws to catch fish.
