Inostrancevia – Strike Attack

“Look at these teeth, mate! Suddenly I do not feel safe in the car anymore.”
Dr. Henry Loomis

Inostrancevia was from the family of Therapsida and more precisely a type of gorgonopsid, which were known for their long saber teeth. This predator lived during the Late Permian period, or said in more layman’s terms, somewhere around 260 to 251 million years ago — just about before the first mass extinction event.

It is quite interesting that Inostrancevia is not basically a dinosaur as it predates almost all of the famous reptiles we all love so much.

The inostrancevia was more closely related to the mammals than to the reptiles and was one of the apex predators of its time.

The long saber-teeth were quite prominent on its pretty large skull and it must have been a terrifying sight to see in the wild. Especially with its outstanding size of about 3.5 meters (11 feet) in length.

Another fun fact is that it was first discovered on the theritory of modern day Russia and it carries the name of one of the most popular Russian paleontologysts at the time Alexander Inostrantsev.
