The Thapunngaka is from the family of the pterosaurs, that lived during the Mesozoic Era or somewhere 105 million years ago. The Thapunngaka had a large and elongated skull with sharp, conical teeth, making it an effective predator in water environment.
Estimates suggest its wingspan was about 7 meters (23 feet), qualifying it as a pretty large pterosaur especially in Australia.
The name “Thapunngaka” actually comes from the language of the native australian aboriginal Wanamara people in Australia. The name translates to “spear mouth” due to its sharp and spear-like structure of the Thapunngaka jaws.
