Ankylosaurus Toy Line: Jurassic World Rebirth Wild Roar

The all-favourite Ankylosaurus is a quite popular model that has seen many previous iterations, and this time it is definitely chunkier than before. And I do mean it not in a bad way. The overall figure looks and feels massive and kind of justifies the purchase.

Just as most of the Rebirth dinosaurs the scrulpt of this one is supperior to its previous versions and I just love the tiny details. It makes the play with it much more immersive. And I mean details on the head, the armor plates, the spikes, the tail, and even the legs are covered in tiny details.

Here comes the amazing paint that Mattel decided to go with this one. Looks so good in person. Online photos just don’t do justice. The colour scheme of brown and orange seems a bit unusual but at the same time just in place.

It is important to note that the spikes and the armor plates on top of the dinosaur were responsible for many hurt toes and legs kicking it or stepping on it in the dark in the past. With this one however, they are all soft to the touch and will not leave you bleeding if you accidentally stumble on it during the night.

About the toy

1. Sculpt

The overall figure, looks almost as every other Gallimimus from the past but this time there is just a bit more details. Lets take take the head for example. The head sculpt is very considering the small size, skin texture is present though and not very in your face, with nostrils on the tip of the snout and yellow eyes with black pupils.

It has an articulated jaw which is always a bonus, not only for the Hammond collection units. You can open it up to see the small teeth an tongue in there.

The body is also very well sculpted. The fron limbs are exceptional and really detailed when you look at them you can kind of see the muscles under the skin.

The legs however are maybe the most prominent part of the fugure as they have the most details. The skin texture there is really really good, with the powerful muscles you can clearly see telling away the speed this dinosaur could reach. And there are the feet. The most disproportional part in any Mattel dinosaur figure. They are extremely out of proportion to the rest of the body, but this is obviously the only way the figure can be posed so there is that.

The tail has a nice natural curve to it, though like most Mattel figures the patterning fades out as you move toward the tip.

2. Articulation

The articulation is standard for the Wild Roar line, with the head being connected to the tail motion and vice versa. The sounds from are loud and clear and much more defined than before. The four legs are also moving quite freely and are easily movable. Here is a list of the moving parts:

  • The articulated head is connected with the tail motion
  • Articulated tail is connected with the head motion
  • Legs movement and swivel  (forward and back)
  • Activated roars that are loud and clear

Ankylosaurus Jurassic World Rebirth Wild Roar Review

Toy Line: Wild Roar

Year: 2025

Another armored dinosaur in the already very long line of armored dinosaurs from Mattel. A new partially updated sculpt, a distinctive orange-brown color scheme, and lots of armor detail on any mainline Ankylosaurus yet.

How Does It Compare to the Dominion Version?

The Dominion toy line Roar Strikers Ankylosaurus was pretty mid in terms of paint and details and looked just like most of the other previous releases. It was a fine-looking dinosaur, but nothing stood out from the rest. The spikes on the head were unpainted, the beak was bare, the club tail does not seems to have been painted at all. The Rebirth version addresses nearly every one of those complaints.

Head-to-Head: Dominion Ankylosaurus vs Rebirth Ankylosaurus

Dominion Roar Strikers (2022)

  • Same sculpt — no updates
  • Reddish-brown base — weak overall
  • Head spikes unpainted
  • Beak completely bare
  • No color difference on the tail club
  • Action feature button on back

Rebirth Wild Roar (2025)

  • Partially updated — chunkier body ✓
  • Orange + brown is quite distinctive scheme ✓
  • Head spikes painted ✓
  • Beak sculpted, closed position
  • Lighter underside throughout ✓
  • Action feature via head/tail link ✓

About the toy

1. Sculpt

The Jurassic World Re-Imagined Therizinosaurus arrives as part of the Legacy Collection two-pack alongside the Giganotosaurus. Even as a secondary figure in the set, it is a genuinely beautiful release, probably with its own fan base. It brings a fresh paint scheme, smooth articulation, and awesome presence.

The first surprise right out of the box is the size. This Therizinosaurus is smaller than previous Mattel releases, which is not actually bad, as the Dominion Therizinosaurus is very large and difficult to pose and stand out as a sore thumb on the shelf.

The sculpt of the new Therizinosaurus appears to be exactly the same without any new additions or meaningful changes. However, what makes this version distinctive is entirely in the paint job and coloration.

The jaw is manually adjustable, which makes it at least to me easily posable and great for photoshoots.

The neck articulation is also a live saver for any photo enthusiast with two points of articulation, one that swivels fully around and one that moves up and down. The joints are smooth and responsive, allowing for a wide variety of natural-looking head positions.

The arms move together with the press of a button, resulting in both arms striking forward simultaneously. The claws themselves are painted in a glossy, almost black paint, and they look quite menacing and sharp.

Feathering is, of course, present along the top of the neck, the upper arms, and the tail sculpted clearly and fitting naturally into the overall silhouette.

The foot sculpt is clean and detailed, no objections there, as everything looks good and not out of place or proportion.

2. Articulation

The articulation is the best one possible for this type of dinosaur. Here is a list of the moving parts:

  • Excellent neck articulation – smooth, expressive, wide range
  • Wrist articulation
  • Arms strike action feature
  • Tail articulation
  • Legs articulation

Verdict Should I buy it?

The Rebirth Wild Roar Ankylosaurus came in as the expected filler figure of the wave and left as one of its strongest entries. The orange-and-brown color scheme is genuinely distinctive, the partially updated sculpt feels more imposing than its predecessors, an Ankylosaurus at this scale is not something to take for granted. The Dominion version certainly did not deliver it. Unpainted claws and the lack of a black pupil are small misses, and the tail color transition could be smoother. But overall, this is arguably Mattel’s best mainline Ankylosaurus to date, and it earns its spot in the collection.
