Jurassic World Survival Afrovenator
“This is the Afrovenator, or ‘African Hunter.’ We’ve… ‘enhanced’ this one for the Survival line. That random crest on its nose? That’s for… intimidation. The extra skin on its throat? Also for intimidation. The fact that it glows green? …That’s just so you don’t trip over it in the dark.” — Jurassic World Park Staff (probably)
This is the first time we see the mighty Afrovenator in the Mattel dinosaur toys lineup.
It is a bit weird to have a brand new dinosaur exactly in the Survival line, where all dinosaurs have quite exaggerated features, but non the less it is a much welcome addition.
The figure is super detailed and very well sculpted. There are lots of mutations showing up on the sculpt like the prominent crest on the snout and flappy skin on the bottom of its throat and tail. The skin texture is a very very detailed, painted with extremely vibrant and crisp scales. There are translucent parts on the plastic which are left like this by design for the light-up feature to pop but this also adds to the Survival’s unhealthy look of the dinosaur.
As a “Wild Roar” figure, its action is triggered by a button on its side as well as by moving the neck. This activates a “jaw snapping” motion that is combined with a “little turn in the neck.” This action is accompanied by unique roaring sounds and a awesome looking green light-up feature that illuminates the figure’s body from the inside, looking “insane” in the dark.
The paint job quite outstanding. The main body is in a reddish tone, with dark bluish-gray spots and patterns on the face and back. The feet are painted a dark brown, which helps camouflage I guess and last but not least the unpainted claws is something I truly despise.
