Velociraptor Trilogy Set - Brown Jurassic World Rebirth Trilogy Set

Toy Line: Play Set

Year: 2025

Three films. Three raptors. One box. The Velociraptor Trilogy Set is one of the more ambitious collector releases Mattel has put together presenting a figure from each of the original Jurassic Park trilogy films in a single, beautifully packaged set. The packaging alone is exceptional. The figures inside? A mixed bag — but one with a genuine standout that makes the whole set worth discussing.

About the toy

1. Sculpt

First of all, this set is brilliant. I love the concept to have three Velociraptors, one from each of the original trilogy films – Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park – The Lost World, and Jurassic Park III. Presented together in genuinely lovely packaging are an amazing play set that brings you three toys at once.

Here we will review the OG Velociraptor from the Jurassic Park movie, and because of its colour difference, I called it Brown.

The original trilogy’s most iconic Raptor gets the weakest figure in the set, mostly because of its recycled model that has been reissued for years and years, with the only difference being its colours. My main issue is that this is supposed to be the selling point of this product – to provide movie-accurate figures, but this one does not look like the velociraptors in the first movie, like at all.

The head is as I said the old and boring one seen in so many toy lines before. The body is a bit unusually posed. The mouth has the same indistinctive teeth as the old releases

2. Articulation

The articulation is also quite boring, with the jaw being the highlight. Here is a list of the moving parts:

    • Articulated jaw
    • Swivable neck
    • Arm swivel (forward and back)
    • Leg movement (forward and back)

Verdict Should I buy it?

A set worth buying, but with clear expectations: you’re buying it for the JP3 raptor and the packaging, and those two things alone make a reasonable case. The Lost World raptor is decent enough at this scale. The JP1 raptor is genuinely the weakest point and drags the overall rating down.

Mattel has done better JP1 raptors before and should have used a better sculpt here. If you are a eager to compete your collection or particularly love the original trilogy era, this is still a satisfying purchase. If you only care about one specific film’s raptor, check whether standalone options suit you better first.

About the Velociraptor

Velociraptor earned its fearsome reputation not from its size, as it measures only 4 meters in length and is overshadowed by larger and less intimidating dinosaur species. However, its ferocity and intelligence set it apart. Equipped with large, sharp teeth and sickle-shaped claws, Velociraptor is an exceptionally efficient predator, primarily targeting herbivorous dinosaurs like Protoceratops. Nevertheless, its limited strength means it is unlikely to engage in combat with larger or heavily armored dinosaurs.

The initial discovery of Velociraptor took place in 1923 by Peter Kaisen during an expedition to the Gobi Desert in Outer Mongolia, conducted in collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History. Kaisen unearthed a complete skull and a toe claw, which were subsequently sent to Henry Fairfield Osborne at the museum in New York. The specimen was then named Velociraptor, meaning ‘swift plunderer,’ referencing its impressive speed and predatory behavior.

Fossils of Velociraptor have solely been found within the Djadochta Formation in Mongolia, indicating that this genus inhabited the region approximately 70-74 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous period. The climate during this time was desert-like, prompting Velociraptor to gravitate towards streams and rivers where its prey would gather in search of vegetation.

How to unlock

How to unlock Brown Velociraptor in Jurassic World Rebirth Collection?

Open up your Jurassic World Play App (previously known as the Jurassic World Facts App), press the Scan button and point it towards the DNA code here:

Which Velociraptor is the best figure in the Trilogy Set?

The JP3 male Raptor is by far the strongest figure — it features the correct crested head sculpt, quills with striped paintwork, paint coverage extending from head to tail, and better teeth than the other two. It may be the best mainline JP3 Velociraptor Mattel has produced.

Is the Trilogy Set worth buying?

For Jurassic Park era collectors, yes — particularly for the JP3 Raptor and the packaging presentation. If you primarily want a JP1 Raptor, Mattel has better individual versions available. If you want a Lost World tiger-stripe, the Amber Collection version remains the benchmark.

How do I scan the DNA codes from the Velociraptor Trilogy Set?

Each figure has its own DNA barcode. Open the Jurassic World Play App, tap the Scan button, and point it at the barcode on each individual Velociraptor to unlock them separately in your collection.

Where can I buy the Velociraptor Trilogy Set?

The set is a Target exclusive and is available in store and on Target.com. At the time of making this post I was able to find it in Amazon as well and probably generic toy stores.

“Everyone knows I have a soft spot for this dinosaur, the Velociraptor. And they get a bad rap, as far as I’m concerned. But if you imprint early enough, you can make real connections with them. Other than Claire, raptors are the most intelligent partners I’ve ever had… and like her, they could kill me in the blink of an eye. That’s a joke.”
