Kaprosuchus

Kaprosuchus is a prehistoric crocodyliform genus (a group including crocodiles and their closest relatives) that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. Kaprosuchus was first described in 2012 based on fossils found in Niger, Africa. The name “Kaprosuchus” is derived from Greek words meaning “boar crocodile,” which reflects some of its distinct features.

It is known for its unique and somewhat unusual characteristics that set it apart from modern crocodiles. Kaprosuchus was a relatively small crocodyliform, estimated to be around 3 to 5 meters (10 to 16 feet) in length. However, what makes Kaprosuchus notable is its skull, which had elongated, forward-facing eyes, much like those of terrestrial predators. This suggests that it might have had binocular vision and could potentially have been adapted for more active hunting on land. Unlike modern crocodiles that primarily hunt in water, Kaprosuchus may have been capable of stalking and ambushing prey on land.
