Guanlong

“You look like a king of the chickens. No actually you look like a turkey in need of a pardon.”
Isaac Clement

Guanlong is a genus of theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 160 million years ago. The name “Guanlong” translates to “crowned dragon” in reference to the distinctive crest on its skull.

Guanlong was a relatively small theropod compared to later tyrannosauroids. It measured around 9 feet (2.7 meters) in length and stood about 3 feet (1 meter) tall at the hips.

One of the most distinctive features of Guanlong is the ornate crest on its snout. This crest is composed of bony structures and is reminiscent of the crests seen in some later tyrannosaurs like Dilong and Yirong.

Guanlong was most likely a carnivorous predator, preying on smaller dinosaurs and other animals of its time. Its size and anatomy suggest that it may have been agile and relatively fast moving dinosaur.
