Mutadon Strike Attack Review Jurassic World Survival Review

Toy Line: Strike Attack

Year: 2026

This is the third Mutadon release from Mattel, after the two figures in the Ultimate Damage Destruction Pack and before the upcoming Hammond Collection version. It is a decent figure with a genuinely excellent action feature, but it is not a must-have for anyone who already owns the Ultimate Damage set. The forward head-and-neck lunge with simultaneous jaw snap is one of the most natural-feeling action features in the Strike Attack range. The figure itself is smaller than the Ultimate Damage versions and shares considerable sculpt elements with those releases.

📋 The Key Question Before Buying

Do you already own the Mutadon Destruction Pack? If yes, this Strike Attack is a smaller version of a figure you already have with a different color scheme and a new action feature. The action feature is genuinely one of the best in the range, but it may not be enough justification on its own.

If you do not own any Mutadon yet and the Hammond Collection version is not yet available in your region, this Strike Attack is a solid entry point for the species. With the Hammond Collection announced and expected to be the best Mutadon yet, patient collectors may want to wait.

About the Toy

1. Sculpt and painting

Paint Scheme: Light gray Dark Gray Green Red and Yellow

The primary figure color is a very light gray almost shimering running across the body, wings, and tail. This distinguishes the Strike Attack version from the darker gray of the Ultimate Damage figures, giving it a slightly different visual identity while staying within the same gray area of colours.  There are a few red accents that appear on the top of the head and at the tips of the wings just to be in line with the Survival theme. Inside the mouth, the teeth are painted in the same yellowish tone as we see with recent Mattel toys but that is not particularly bad as maybe few dinosaurs had Hollywood white teeth anyway. The tongue is given a pink tone and is nicely textured.

The aggressive-looking, no mother could love head is the most distinctive feature of the Mutadon and is well represented here. The head sculpt is amazing to the smallest details, we can see osteoderms, scales, even the hanging skin from the throat area.

In terms of sculpt, they are pretty close to the Ultimate Damage Mutadons but with a more aggressive posture for the Strike Attack feature of the figure.

The wings carry the same light gray tone as the body, transitioning to red at the tips. The bends and folds of the wing skin membrane is sculpted amazingly and look real.

The claws have a very sharp look but a re completely safe to play with. There is a wing articulation that allows movement out away from the body. The arms do go back to a folded position, which allows a view of the stomach skin detail.

2. Action Feature & Articulation

This is one of the most natural and visually convincing action features in the entire Strike Attack range.

A button on the back causes the head and neck to thrust forward simultaneously as the jaw snaps open. The motion perfectly mirrors how Mutadons run in for an attack in the film, with the head leading forward and low. The mechanism operates smoothly without a jerky or mechanical feel. It is the single strongest argument for buying this figure, even if you already own the Ultimate Damage set.

  • Head and neck (forward lunge, action feature)
  • Jaw (simultaneous snap, action feature)
  • Wings (out away from the body, forward and back)
  • Legs (forward and back, both)
  • Tail (fixed curve, no articulation)

How Does It Compare to the Ultimate Damage Mutadon?

Ultimate Damage Mutadon

  • Larger figure overall
  • Dark gray primary body
  • Damage indicators with light and sound
  • Two figures in the set (open and closed wings)
  • Head held higher, less forward crouch
  • No dedicated lunge action feature
Strike Attack Mutadon

  • Smaller than Ultimate Damage figures
  • Silverish primary body, different tone
  • No damage indicators
  • Single figure
  • More forward crouch due to action feature
  • Forward lunge jaw snap is strong action feature ✓

Verdict Should I buy it?

If you do not own any Mutadon figure yet, yes. If you already own the Ultimate Damage Destruction Pack, the decision comes down to whether you specifically want the action feature. The forward lunge jaw snap is genuinely excellent and is not replicated by any other Mutadon release. If the action feature is compelling to you, pick it up. If you are happy with the Ultimate Damage figures and are waiting for the Hammond Collection version as I am, that patience is probably justified.

3. About the Mutadon

"These things were created in our lab. Half raptor, half pterosaur. The DNA was never meant to be combined this way."

The Mutadon is a fictional hybrid creature introduced in the Jurassic World Rebirth film (2025) and central to the Jurassic World Survival toy line. It is not based on any real prehistoric species but instead represents a genetic hybrid combining elements of a dromaeosaurid theropod and a pterosaur, resulting in a bipedal predator with feathered or membranous wings, a beaked skull, and the killing claw of a raptor lineage. In the film’s lore, Mutadons were created in an abandoned InGen laboratory as part of unauthorized gene-splicing experiments, combining raptor intelligence and agility with the aerial capability of pterosaurs.

In Jurassic World Rebirth, Mutadons are depicted as pack hunters that use their wings for short bursts of flight or gliding rather than sustained aerial pursuit, preferring to run down prey with their legs while using their wings for balance, sudden directional changes, and intimidation displays. They are shown as highly social and coordinated predators, capable of flushing prey into ambushes set by other members of the pack. The forward lunge attack posture, with the head and neck thrust toward prey as the jaws snap, is a signature hunting behavior that makes the Strike Attack action feature one of the most film-accurate Mutadon releases Mattel has produced.

Should I buy the Mutadon Strike Attack if I already own the Ultimate Damage version?

Probably not unless the action feature specifically appeals to you. The Strike Attack version is smaller than the Ultimate Damage figures, shares significant sculpt elements, and uses a different color scheme that is not necessarily an improvement. The Hammond Collection Mutadon, already announced, is expected to be superior. If you do not own any version of the Mutadon yet, the Strike Attack is a decent entry point.

What is the action feature on the Mutadon Strike Attack?

A button on the back activates a forward head and neck lunge with simultaneous jaw snap. The motion looks natural and mirrors how Mutadons attack in the film, with the head leading forward and low. It is one of the smoothest and most visually convincing action features in the Strike Attack range.
