Mattel has released several Dimetrodons, but this new Survival version stands out with its highly aggressive head sculpt and armor-like features.
The sculpt of the new Dimetrodon features a detailed, scaly texture. The “Survival” signature is clearly visible as a row of prominent, dark brown armored “spikes” or scutes running along the dinosaurs back, right where the sail begins. The spines of the sail itself are also well-defined. Following the toy line’s theme, these new spike elements are likely made of a soft, flexible rubber for safety.
As part of the “Frenzy Pack” series, this Dimetrodon features an articulated, openable jaw and limbs. This allows it to be posed with its mouth shut or opened wide in a menacing expression.
The main body is painted in a deep teal or blue-green. This is sharply contrasted by the massive sail, which features a vibrant, bright yellow membrane. This same yellow is used as a striking accent pattern over the dinosaur’s eyes, tying the color scheme together. The “survival spikes” and the sail’s spines are a dark, earthy brown.
It has this specific fantasy look that at first does not make much sense due to the vibrant colours but it starts to grow on. you pretty fast.
