Spinosaurus - Danger Set Jurassic World Rebirth Review

Toy Line: Danger Set

Year: 2025

The Spinosaurus Danger Set is the most complete single-purchase slice of Jurassic World Rebirth on the toy shelf. It pairs an exclusive Spinosaurus color scheme not available anywhere else with the film's two lead human characters at 3.75-inch scale, backed by a full accessory loadout including the DNA Extractor case directly from the film. One thing that surprises most collectors: the lack of heavy tail articulation is actually a point in its favour over the mainline Spinosaurus.

📋 Three Spinosaurus variants confirmed for Rebirth

The Danger Set confirms that Jurassic World Rebirth features at least three distinct Spinosaurus colorways in the film.

The standard mainline release uses a different palette from this set’s exclusive orange-and-brown variant, and evidence from the film points to at least one further version.

The Danger Set Spino represents a genuinely different individual animal from the mainline release, making it a valid addition even for collectors who already own the standard version.

About the Toy

1. Sculpt and painting

Starting at the head, the skin texture is impressive throughout the face. The lower jaw carries its own distinct texture before picking up larger scales toward the back. Both the upper and lower jaws articulate independently, a welcome detail at this scale. Opening the mouth reveals a fully painted interior which is becoming a standard with newer Mattel toy lineses. The newer rubber teeth look noticeably sharper and more convincing than older Mattel teeth, applied in a white coloration. The interlocking section where the lower jaw teeth extend up into the upper jaw is cleanly executed and the jaw closes smoothly.

The head also features crest-like structures on either side rather than the central crest of a more updated scientific interpretation, reflecting the slightly stylized Rebirth design.

The body is primarily bumpy scale texture throughout, with the underside featuring a notably different crocodilian-style scale arrangement that suits the semi-aquatic Rebirth design well. Scoots and osteoderm-like scales follow down along the neck toward the body.

The orange tones along the back and into the sail area are the standout visual feature of this variant.

The sail looks particularly good with the orange scheme running through it, and the tops of individual spines are visible sticking up from the sail structure. Moving into the tail, scales become slightly more vibrant and textured differently from the main body, and the crocodilian-style scaling continues along the underside to the tip.

2. Action Feature & Articulation

The Danger Set Spinosaurus comes with some features as.

  • Both jaws (articulated)
  • Neck (up, down, left, right)
  • Arms (forward and back only)
  • Legs (forward and back)
  • Swivel ankles
  • Single tail joint (limited left/right, more up/down)

The roaring sounds are notably cleaner and clearer than the Sound Surge version. The light effect, which illuminates the inside of the mouth during the roar, is divisive for display-focused collectors and not a feature that will appeal to everyone, but it is well executed for what it is.

Moving the tail to drive the head is the most display-useful feature, as it extends the effective posing range of the neck without requiring a traditional articulation joint in that region. The chomp cycle, while fun, does result in the mouth staying wide open in the default position, which many collectors will find less aesthetically pleasing for display.

Leg articulation is limited, which is consistent with recent larger Mattel figures and a broader pattern in the Rebirth line. The arms have a better range than the legs. The ankle swivel is a welcome addition at this scale. The tail-to-head linkage means the two tail swivel joints effectively double as head articulation, which is an unconventional but practical design choice.

Verdict Should I buy it?

Definitely worth picking up, especially if you want Zora Bennett and Dr. Henry Loomis in your collection. Both human figures are well executed with convincing likenesses and strong articulation.

The exclusive orange Spinosaurus represents a genuinely different individual from the film, and its clean uninterrupted tail is actually an advantage over the mainline version’s seam-heavy action tail.

The DNA Extractor case is a film-accurate highlight, and the overall accessory loadout adds real display and play value.

3. About the Spinosaurus

Spinosaurus aegyptiacus is the longest known carnivorous dinosaur ever discovered, estimated at 54 to 55 feet (16 to 17 metres) in length, living in North Africa during the Cretaceous period. Named “spined lizard” for the enormous sail of spines along its back (the tallest individual spine measured at over 1.7 metres), it was originally depicted as a large terrestrial predator. Discoveries in 2014 and 2019 by paleontologists Nizar Ibrahim and Paul Sereno revealed that Spinosaurus possessed short hind legs, webbed feet, and a long paddle-like tail, suggesting it was highly adapted for aquatic life and likely capable of diving and swimming in deep rivers.

The Jurassic World Rebirth Spinosaurus reflects this updated science with a heavier hind limb structure, webbed feet, and a broad paddle tail, departing from the JP3 design that many fans grew up with. While the departure was initially controversial, the Rebirth design is scientifically closer to the real animal than any previous Jurassic film version. The Danger Set’s exclusive orange colorway also confirms that the film features multiple Spinosaurus individuals with distinct appearances.

Who are the human figures in the Spinosaurus Danger Set?

The set includes Zora Bennett, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World Rebirth, and Dr. Henry Loomis, portrayed by Jonathan Bailey. Both are at a 3.75-inch scale with actor-like face sculpts and content-accurate clothing.

Is the Spinosaurus in the Danger Set the same as the mainline Rebirth Spinosaurus?

No. The Danger Set Spinosaurus features an exclusive orange-and-brown colorway not available on the mainline release and is significantly smaller at approximately 42 cm (16.5 in) in length. It also has a single, limited tail joint rather than the heavy action-feature articulation of the mainline version, giving it a cleaner, uninterrupted tail. It represents a different individual Spinosaurus from the film.

How many Spinosaurus color variants are there in Jurassic World Rebirth?

Based on the toy releases, at least three distinct Spinosaurus colorways exist in Jurassic World Rebirth: the standard mainline version, the exclusive orange variant in the Danger Set, and evidence pointing to at least one additional variant in the film.

What accessories are included in the Spinosaurus Danger Set?

The set includes a two-piece DNA Extractor with a yellow storage case (film-accurate), an orange flare gun, a flexible black knife, a utility tool with paint detail and an impressive sculpt, and a shoulder holster. The yellow case stores all the small accessories to prevent them from being lost.

Why is the Rebirth Spinosaurus design different from Jurassic Park III?

The Rebirth Spinosaurus reflects paleontological discoveries from 2014 and 2019, suggesting Spinosaurus was a semi-aquatic animal with short hind legs, webbed feet, and a paddle-like tail. The JP3 design was based on older interpretations. The Rebirth film deliberately chose the updated design, making it scientifically more accurate to the real animal than any previous Jurassic film version.
