“Why was the Triceratops such a popular dinosaur? Because it was always tri-horny!“ – Alan Grant
Chasmosaurus is a genus of ceratopsid dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 75-70 million years ago. It belongs to the group of horned, frilled dinosaurs known as ceratopsians, which includes well-known dinosaur fan favourites like the Triceratops.
Specific for the Chasmosaurus details are the large, frill at the back of its head, which is a characteristic feature of ceratopsian dinosaurs. The frill had large openings, and fenestrae, making it lighter in weight. It also possessed both a nasal horn on the snout and smaller brow horns above its eyes.
Chasmosaurus was a relatively large dinosaur, with an estimated length of around 14 to 16 feet (4 to 5 meters) which is quite cute.
