Scelidosaurus Jurassic World Survival Frenzy Pack Review
The first ever Scelidosaurus by Mattel but nothing impressive. To me it appears to like a line filler but I am sure there will be Scelidosaurus fans who will purchase it. Personally it is a pass for me and even my son was like - yeah I am not sure I want it.
🔬 Science Note: The Most Completely Known British Dinosaur
Scelidosaurus harrisonii holds two remarkable distinctions in paleontology. It is the most completely known dinosaur from the British Isles, and the only classified dinosaur from Ireland. More significantly, the original specimen, discovered in 1858 by fossil collector James Harrison in Dorset, England, represents the first ever more or less complete dinosaur skeleton discovered anywhere in the world.
Despite this importance, it was never properly described in full detail until University of Cambridge paleontologist David Norman completed a comprehensive four-paper redescription in 2020, over 160 years after the fossil was found. Scelidosaurus lived approximately 193 million years ago in the Early Jurassic, and its relationship to ankylosaurs and stegosaurs remains a subject of active scientific debate.
About the toy
1. Paint Scheme and Sculpt
Paint Scheme: Orange, Brown and Off-white
The color scheme is a bit boring to be honest. The primary base color is brown and boring and the only interesting color accent is the orange that runs over the top of the head of the Scelidosaurus. The head sculpt carries fairly small scales throughout the face with larger scales visible on top. Cheek spikes extend from the side of the jaw, adding to the armored character.
Bumpy ridges follow along the top of the head into the neck, picking up the armored look early. The overall head is notably bulkier than the real Scelidosaurus would have been, which is either a Survival-line exaggeration or a Mattel proportional choice, but it does give the figure an imposing presence at the Frenzy Pack scale.
The off-white covers mainly the back of the figure and the ridge highlights.
The armored look throughout the body is the figure’s strongest sculpt element. Scoots, spikes, and osteoderms run across the back, sides, and even appear bumping off the stomach region.
The legs looks strong and carry a lot of scoots and spikes moving down toward the feet.
2. Action Feature, Light-Up and Articulation
- Neck (up/down)
- Front legs (forward and back, limited range)
- Rear legs (forward and back, good range)
- Tail swivel
- No action feature
Verdict Should I buy it?
Personally I am passing on this figure. Did not like it and even the fact that it is the first itteration in the toy line did not make it appealing enough to purchase it. But it would find its fants for sure.

3. About the Scelidosaurus
"It is unfortunate that such an important dinosaur, discovered at such a critical time in the early study of dinosaurs, was never properly described. It has now been described in detail and provides many new and unexpected insights concerning the biology of early dinosaurs and their underlying relationships."
Scelidosaurus harrisonii (meaning “limb lizard,” from the Greek skelos for leg and sauros for lizard or reptile) is an early armored ornithischian dinosaur from the Early Jurassic period, living approximately 193 million years ago in what is now Dorset, England. Its fossils have also been found in Ireland, making it the only classified dinosaur from that country. The species is named after James Harrison, the fossil collector who discovered the original specimen in 1858 at Charmouth on the Dorset coast. Despite being known since 1859 and representing the first ever more or less complete dinosaur skeleton discovered anywhere in the world, Scelidosaurus was never properly described until University of Cambridge paleontologist David Norman completed a comprehensive redescription published in four papers across 2020, over 160 years after the fossil was found.
Scelidosaurus was a medium-sized herbivore estimated at 4 to 5 metres (13 to 16 feet) in length and approximately 250 kilograms in body mass. It was covered in osteoderms running along its back, sides, and tail, providing substantial protection against predators. Its relationship to the later armored dinosaur groups remains debated: recent analysis suggests it may be an ancestor of the ankylosaurs alone rather than a common ancestor of both ankylosaurs and stegosaurs as previously thought. Scelidosaurus is the most completely known dinosaur from the British Isles and the only classified dinosaur from Ireland.
