Pyroraptor Jurassic World Rebirth Strike Attack Review
The newest appearance of the Pyroraptor in the Rebirth toy comes with a promise that the Mattel's designers are listening to their customers and this time lots of issues with the previous Pyroraptor from the Dominion toy line are fixed. Revised sculpt, additional details, more realistically looking teeth and posable jaw. To me it is definitely the best looking Pyroraptor so far.
How Does It Compare to Previous Versions?
We all loved the Pyroraptor scene from the Dominion movie, and the Pyroraptor was shown in great detail, showing feathers on a dinosaur for the first time.
However, the Dominion version of the Pyroraptor was quite subtle in details, and even though it was enjoyed by the fans, there were a lot of people who disliked it for the major blandness with which the dinosaur was sculpted.
So I think I can speak for all the fans and say that the Rebirth version of the Pyroraptor is the best one so far, and we should all be happy that Mattel is listening to their customers/fans.

About the toy
1. Sculpt
The Pyroraptor has been a controversial figure since it’s first release with the Dominion toy line. The controversy is coming from mainly the die-hard fans of the series, who are not satisfied with the lack of proper teeth and plumage. But it appears that Mattel is listening to the feedback, and the result is, without question, the best mainline Pyroraptor Mattel has produced to date.
The overall figure is covered in details that were barely present on the previous versions of the Pyroraptor. For example, the head sculpt is very sharp and detailed. You can see the little scutes around its snot and around the eyes and how they transition to feathering at the back of the head.
The teeth are also a massive upgrade from the previous releases. Inside the mouth, the tongue is quite prominent and properly painted.
The jaw is also articulated, allowing you to achieve the perfect poses and pictures. It is not spring-loaded, so it is kid-safe even for the most sensitive kids.
The feathers, however is what make this figure so distinctive from its predecessors. The arm feathers are so much better than the ones in the Dominion version. The rest of the feathers are spread around its body and look very natural.
I have always loved the saying “The Devil is in the Details” and indeed Mattel sculptors must agree as they have covered all of their new figures in small injuries that not only make the figures look more convincingly real, but they also bring character, as we can imagine what these creatures went through in their lives.
Last but not least I would like to note that the legs of the Pyroraptor and particularly the feet are very well done. They are quite proportionate to the body ratio and look much better than the Dominion version.
2. Articulation
Moving the tail up and down causes the head to bob in the same direction, creating an attacking or display motion. The jaw is articulated separately and must be opened manually – it does not snap as part of the feature. It’s a simple mechanism, but it works naturally for this dinosaur, and having both the tail movement and the openable jaw at the same time gives reasonable play value without one cancelling out the other.
- Articulated jaw (open/close)
- Arms: forward, back, and out from the body
- Legs: forward and back
- Tail: up and down (action feature linked to head)
Verdict Should I buy it?
If you passed on the Dominion Pyroraptor, this is the version to get, no question. If you already own the Dominion version, the upgrade is substantial enough to justify picking this one up too: better feathers, articulated jaw, injury detailing, and sharper texture across the board. The Hammond Collection version remains the definitive Pyroraptor in Mattel’s range, but for a mainline Strike Attack figure, this is as good as it gets. A genuine collector’s win for a figure that has needed this treatment since 2022.

About the Pyroraptor
Pyroraptor is the first positively identified member of the dromaeosaurid (raptor) family found in Europe. This was a small, fast hunter that lived near the end of the age of dinosaurs. The specimen is known from only a few bones (which were discovered after a forest fire), but they are enough to give scientists a good idea of what this little dinosaur would have looked like. Some paleontologists believe it would have closely resembled the small, bird-like dinosaurs recently discovered in China.
Pyroraptor was found associated with fossils representing a number of other creatures, including the iguanodont Rhabdodon, a nodosaur, a titanosaur, a ceratopsian, the abelisaurid Tarascosaurus and some Late Cretaceous reptiles.
The origin of the dromaeosaurs has long been debated. A number of prominent scientists believe they originated in North America, possibly the area that was adjacent to Europe in the very Early Cretaceous.
There has been scientific debate whether Pyroraptor is a juvenile specimen of another dromaeosaur that lived alongside it, Variraptor, although the two dromaeosaur species had differing ulnas. There is also debate on which subfamily Pyroraptor belonged to within dromaeosauridae; some have classified it as a dromaeosaurine, velociraptorine, or a unenlagiine (a subfamily of dromaeosaurids sometimes classified to be their own distinct group closer to birds). However, this currently remains unclear until more specimens are discovered.

Yes, significantly. The Rebirth version features an articulated jaw, vastly improved arm and tail feather detail, more screen-accurate plumage proportions, crisper skin texture, scar detailing, and better-proportioned feet. It is the best mainline Pyroraptor Mattel has released, second only to the Hammond Collection version.
The figure has four points of articulation: an articulated jaw, arm movement (forward, back, and out away from the body), leg movement (forward and back), and a tail joint that moves up and down as part of the action feature.
