Maiasaura – Wild Roar

“This dinosaur is large, bulky and has a stubborn disposition. It’s called the Iguanodon. It’s a herbivore with attitude. I’d suggest giving it a wide berth.”
George Lambert

The so-called Good Mother Lizard Maiasaura is a genus of herbivorous hadrosaurid or in non scientific slang duck-billed dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 76 to 74 million years ago, in what is now Montana, USA.

Maiasaura was somewhere in between medium to large-sized hadrosaur, estimated to be about 9 meters (30 feet) in length and weighing around 2 to 3 tons.

It is one of the most well-known dinosaurs with a lot of evidence of taking care of their offspring. due to its association with evidence of parental care, giving it the nickname “the good mother lizard.

The most famous feature of the Maiasaura is the discovery of fossil nests containing eggs, hatchlings, and juveniles, which provided the first clear evidence that some dinosaurs cared for their young. The nests were found in colonies, suggesting communal nesting behavior. The presence of worn teeth in hatchlings indicated that young Maiasaura were fed by adults, rather than being fully independent at birth.
