Eoraptor

“I am glad to present you one of the most  important and extensively studied dinosaur among palaeontologists.”
Owen Grady

Eoraptor, meaning “dawn plunderer,” is a genus of early dinosaur that holds a significant place in the study of dinosaur evolution. It is considered one of the oldest known dinosaurs and played a crucial role in our understanding of early dinosaur history.

The Eoraptor was first discovered in the early 1990s by an American-Argentine research team in the Ischigualasto Formation of northwestern Argentina. The dinosaur was named “Eoraptor” in 1993 by paleontologists Ricardo Martínez, Paul Sereno, and others. The name refers to the fact that it represents a very early stage in the evolution of dinosaurs.

Eoraptor lived during the Late Triassic period, approximately 231 million years ago. The Ischigualasto Formation, where its fossils were found, is well-known for its wealth of early dinosaur fossils and other ancient reptiles.

Eoraptor was a small, bipedal dinosaur estimated to have been about 3 to 4 feet (1 to 1.2 meters) in length. Its skeletal features suggest that it was an early theropod dinosaur, the group that includes famous carnivorous dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex. However, Eoraptor is believed to have been omnivorous, likely feeding on both plants and small animals.
