Becklespinax

“Everyone knows I have a soft spot for this dinosaur, the Velociraptor. And they get a bad rap, as far as I’m concerned. But if you imprint early enough, you can make real connections with them. Other than Claire, raptors are the most intelligent partners I’ve ever had… and like her, they could kill me in the blink of an eye. That’s a joke.”
Owen Grady

Becklespinax is a questionable classification for a theropod dinosaur that was roaming nowadays England during the Early Cretaceous period.

Fossils of Becklespinax were initially classified as a new type of Altispinax called A. altipinax, based solely on teeth. Paleontologists debated whether there was enough evidence for a second species. Later, the remains were linked to a European group of Acrocanthosaurus and were considered a sinraptorid theropod, officially named Becklespinax altispinax.

The presence of tall neural spines on three vertebrae puzzled researchers. With only three vertebrae available, it was challenging to determine if Becklespinax had tall spines like Spinosaurus and Acrocanthosaurus. Comparisons with dinosaurs like Concavenator, which had small spines consisting of only two vertebrae, added to the complexity. The team suggested that one spine might be shorter due to injuries but also considered the possibility that it was naturally shorter during the dinosaur’s life.

All of the above is very convenient to include this dinosaur in the Epic Evolution toy collection.
