“Why was the Triceratops such a popular dinosaur? Because it was always tri-horny!“
– Alan Grant
Mamenchisaurus was a well-known genus of sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, around 145 to 155 million years ago.
It was one of the largest sauropods to have ever existed.
Its most distinctive feature was its incredibly long neck, which could reach up to 11 meters in length. In total, the dinosaur could grow to enormous sizes, with an overall body length of around 22 meters (72 feet) or even more. herbivorous sauropod dinosaurs, known as the Sauropodomorpha. These dinosaurs were characterized by their large bodies, long necks, and small heads.
Being an herbivorous dinosaur, Mamenchisaurus primarily fed on plants and leaves. Its long neck enabled it to reach vegetation high up in trees, which other dinosaurs couldn’t access.
The first remains of Mamenchisaurus were discovered in 1952 in China, specifically in the Mamenxi Formation near the Mamen Brook in Sichuan province. The name “Mamenchisaurus” is derived from the location of its discovery.
