Ornithocherius

“I have always imaggined the Ornithocheirus as one of the last creatures in the sky before the mass extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs and many other forms of life at the end of the Cretaceous period.”

Dr. Ian Malcolm

Ornithocheirus is a genus of pterosaur, a type of flying reptile that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 100 to 120 million years ago. It was one of the largest pterosaurs ever known, with a wingspan of up to 10-12 meters (33-39 feet).

Ornithocheirus is a member of the family Ornithocheiridae, a group of pterosaurs that were well adapted to a marine lifestyle. They had a long, toothed beak and a relatively short tail. It is believed that they had a primarily fish-based diet and would have used its beak to catch fish in shallow coastal waters. Its wings were long and narrow, with a pointed tip, and it likely had a soaring flight style like modern-day albatrosses.

Fossils of Ornithocheirus have been found in many parts of the world, including Europe, South America, and Africa. Its remains are often found in marine deposits, indicating that it may have spent much of its time over the ocean.
